Fire department in action - A fire at a retirement facility in Kiel left three individuals hurt.

Last Thursday, three individuals suffered from smoke inhalation injuries at a senior housing facility in Kiel. They were transported to the hospital for further evaluation after receiving immediate medical attention on the premises, as reported by the fire department.

At around 10:22 p.m., the fire department got calls about a fire in one of the rooms. As a result, a sizable team was sent out.

When they got there, the firefighters found that only a cassette player had caught fire. The staff had managed to put out the blaze before the fire department could make it there. The fire team employed a thermal imaging camera to identify any leftover hotspots. They subsequently ventilated the area.

A total of 37 firefighters and rescue personnel were on the scene, alongside 17 vehicles.

After placing the retired individuals in a temporary shelter, the fire department praised the quick actions of the retirement home staff in extinguishing the fire before their arrival. Despite the successful containment, the investigation revealed that the fire originated from the malfunctioning of an old keel-loaded cassette player in one of the resident's rooms, situated in the Schleswig-Holstein region. Upon retirement, the retired individual had left the device unattended. The fire department has advocated the need for regular fire safety inspections in such facilities, emphasizing their importance in maintaining resident safety.
