- A feast for the Spreewald cucumber
Cucumbers are a culinary classic from the Spreewald. In the town of Golßen, everything revolved around the crisp vegetable that is a symbol of the region in southern Brandenburg. But other regional products were also showcased. Around 30 market stalls participated in the "Spreewald Cucumber Day", along with folk groups. Visitors could experience old traditions like flax spinning.
The origin label "Spreewald Cucumbers" has been protected within the European Union since 1999. The cultivation operations expected a harvest of about 32,000 tons. Cucumbers grow on about 512 hectares, according to the Spreewald Association. The popular tourist destination, the Spreewald, is also known for horseradish, linseed oil, and Peitzer carp.
The following origin label, "Spreewald Cucumbers," has been recognized and protected within the European Union since 1999. During the "Spreewald Cucumber Day," various regional products, including the ones like horseradish and Peitzer carp, were also showcased.
