A decrease in severe injuries from traffic accidents in MV.

In MV, fewer individuals have been sustaining severe injuries from road accidents. Nonetheless, some regions fail to follow this declining trend.

In the beginning of 2024, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern experienced a slight increase in the number of traffic accidents compared to the previous year. But the good news is, the trend of decreasing serious injuries continued. The Statistical Office in Schwerin shared this information recently, stating that in the first two months of this year, out of 7,658 recorded accidents, 557 people sustained injuries, with 85 of them being quite severe.

During the same time frame in 2023, there were 7,609 accidents and 113 people were seriously injured. That represented a decline of around 25%. For the full year, a total of 1,105 people were severely injured in traffic accidents, which was almost 13% less than in 2022.

However, the trend of fewer deaths in traffic accidents didn't continue. The Statistical Office revealed that 9 people lost their lives in traffic accidents in January and February this year, which is the same as in the same period of 2023.

In 2023, the number of fatalities on the roads of the region hit a historical low. The Interior Ministry reported that just 57 people had lost their lives in road accidents that year. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern showed the biggest downturn with a decrease of 31%.
