In the Bavarian town of Ohrenbach (district of Ansbach), a combine harvester caught fire during harvesting operations. Police suspect a technical malfunction as the cause. Alongside the machine, approximately 100 square meters of wheat field also burned. Multiple fire departments were deployed to extinguish the blaze. The estimated damage is around 60,000 euros.

Currently, both the forest fire danger index (WBI) and the grassland fire index are elevated across large parts of Bavaria. The WBI, as of Wednesday morning, ranges from level two (low danger) to level four (high danger), mostly at level three (moderate danger). The grassland fire index, which can also be applied to ripe wheat fields, is at three, with some areas at four. The weather service predicts a decrease in both values for the coming days.

The local police are informing nearby farms about the elevated fire danger due to the current indices. The Police are advising farmers to be extra cautious during harvesting operations to prevent any accidental fires.
