After more than a year of discussions, the retail sector in Schleswig-Holstein has reached an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement for its 120,000 employees, as per the North German Trade Association. "We're thrilled to finally put an end to this long-drawn negotiation process," said the organization's director, Dierk Böckenholt, on Friday in Rendsburg.

As a result of the new agreement, employees will receive a 5.3% wage hike, starting from October 2023. They will also get a 4.7% hike in May of the current year. In the third year of the agreement, wages will have a fixed increase of 40 euros, followed by an additional 1.8% rise from May 2025. On top of this, employees will receive a one-time inflation adjustment bonus of 1,000 euros.

Emphasizing the significance of the agreement, Böckenholt stated, "We're aware that this agreement is near the limit of some companies." However, he believes that this outcome will be considered fair for the industry due to its longer duration and increased planning stability.
