- A club legend becomes Miro Klose's coach

A "Club" legend returns to 1. FC Nürnberg and joins the coaching team of Miroslav Klose. Javier Pinola will be an assistant coach for the second division football team, which will face FC Schalke 04 this Saturday (13:00) without the Argentine. The 41-year-old defensive specialist played for the FCN from 2005 to 2015 and was a fan favorite at the Max-Morlock-Stadion.

Pinola is switching from River Plate to Franconia and is expected to arrive in Nürnberg on Tuesday, according to the club. At the Argentine top club, "Pino" was most recently an assistant coach alongside former Bayern pro Martin Demichelis. Pinola played over 250 games for "the Club". The DFB Cup win in 2007 was his greatest success.

"Pino knows the people here. He lives and loves this city and this club and was immediately enthusiastic when we approached him a few weeks ago," said Nürnberg's sporting director Joti Chatzialexiou. Klose wants to benefit from Pinola's "experience as a player and coach, especially in defensive work". Pinola himself speaks of an honor: "I can assure all 'Club' fans that I will give everything as a coach, just like I did as a player, to make our 'Club' successful."

Pinola's return to football in Nürnberg follows a stint at River Plate in his native Argentina. Born in Bavaria, Pinola is excited to contribute his coaching skills and extensive experience as a player to 1. FC Nürnberg.
