Conference of Bishops - A Catholic gathering plans to express opposition to nationalism.

The president of the German Bishops' Conference, Bishop Georg Bätzing, is hoping for a noticeable difference between Church affairs and right-wing politics during the upcoming Catholic Day in Erfurt. "There's no room for racial nationalism in this country. That message should come from the Catholic Day in Erfurt too," Bätzing shared at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation event for the 103rd Catholic Day in Erfurt, as stated in a provided speech.

According to the bishop, political involvement stemming from Christian convictions implies standing up for peace. "We can't just sit by and watch the global conflicts erupting and wars continuing," he remarked. Bätzing also remarked that their own democratic society is under attack, particularly by those who claim to promote peace while misinterpreting the concept of freedom.

As early as February, the Bishops' Conference made it clear with a resolution that racial nationalism contradicts the Christian conception of God and humanity.

The Catholic Day's organizer, the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK), assured there would be no AfD representative given a stage at the event in Erfurt. However, they would still like to speak to AfD voters. The ZdK voiced their opinion last year that holding a top or honorary position in the church is incompatible with being a member of the AfD.
