According to investigators, the victim was a 43-year-old Ukrainian man. According to the Prosecutor's Office, both had been in Köpenick near the Wuhle River in January.

There, the accused hit the victim on the head with a hammer and then dragged him to the river. There, he pressed the 43-year-old's head underwater for a long time until he died.

The body was found lying in the water by a passerby the next day. Approximately two weeks later, the 34-year-old was arrested by the investigators, who confessed to the crime.

The 34-year-old Berliner appeared before the District Court for the trial. His acquaintances testified about his character and behavior. The Public Prosecutor's Office argued for a severe punishment due to the nature of the crime. The judge, who served as the speaker, decided on the freedom penalty, citing the accused's past good record. The 34-year-old shows remorse and vowed never to return to the path of crime.
