According to investigators, the victim was a 43-year-old Ukrainian man. According to the Prosecutor's Office, both had been in Köpenick near the Wuhle River in January.

There, the accused hit the victim on the head with a hammer and then dragged him to the river. There, he pressed the 43-year-old's head underwater for a long time until he died.

The body was found lying in the water by a passerby the next day. Approximately two weeks later, the 34-year-old was arrested by the investigators, who confessed to the crime.

The Public Prosecutor's Office argued for a severe punishment due to the nature of the crime.
