2nd league - 96 home club after investor deal: Kind "not acceptable"

The parent club of Hannover 96 doubts the legality of the investor deal of the German professional clubs. President Sebastian Kramer also expressed clear criticism towards majority shareholder Martin Kind. "A managing director who acts contrary to the clear instructions of the shareholder is not acceptable. Likewise, a decision under association law that has come about in breach of the same cannot be effective," Kramer told the "Neue Presse" (Friday).

96 coach Stefan Leitl was unsurprisingly reserved in his comments at the press conference ahead of Saturday's game at Holstein Kiel (8.30pm/Sky&Sport1). "You'll never be able to keep these topics completely away from the team," said Leitl on Friday. For the coach, it was crucial "not to raise this topic too much within the team, because we are responsible for the sport."

The 36 German professional clubs voted on the billion-euro deal on Monday. The necessary two-thirds majority was only just achieved. The club, which was at odds with Kind's side, had instructed the 79-year-old to vote against the deal. However, according to the names of the clubs that are said to have voted no, there are serious doubts as to whether Kind did so. Some lawyers have recently expressed skepticism that the deal could be jeopardized by the dispute in Hanover.

The parent club takes a different view. "First of all, we assume that the DFL itself will be convinced of the invalidity of the decision upon closer legal examination," said Kramer. Kind had indeed submitted the statement requested by e.V.. However, he did not reveal what he had said during the secret ballot. "I answered that, it was a secret ballot - and I'm sticking to it," he said.

Kind and the parent club can look back on a long dispute. In the complicated structure of Hannover 96, Kind is on the capital side, while his opponents have been at the helm of 96 e.V. since 2019. The dispute is also about the 50+1 rule in Hannover, which is generally intended to ensure that the parent clubs retain the right to issue instructions even if they have spun off their professional soccer operations into a corporation.

A "yes" vote by Kind against the parent club's directive would be a further indication that the 50+1 rule can no longer be enforced at Hannover 96. The e.V. management had already tried to remove Kind as professional managing director last year - and failed in two courts.
