96 boss Kind: Hamburg and Hanover need Bundesliga clubs

Ahead of Friday's top match in the 2nd Bundesliga between leaders FC St. Pauli and third-placed Hannover 96 (18:30/Sky), 96 majority shareholder Martin Kind has formulated a clear ambition. "The goal can only be the first division," the 79-year-old told the "Hamburger Morgenpost" (Thursday). With a look at second-placed Hamburger SV, Kind added: "Hamburg needs a first division team, at least one. And Hannover needs one too."

Kind is impressed by the development of the Kiezkickers, who have a different opinion to the 96 boss on issues such as 50+1 and investors: "They have developed a brand that is loud and colorful. They've done a great job. The club has developed well in recent years." Coach Fabian Hürzeler's team has also clearly impressed in sporting terms. "They play great soccer. Their willingness to run alone is impressive. At the moment, St. Pauli are the strongest team in the league, as far as I can tell and from what I hear internally," said Kind. However, it is still too early to predict promotion.

The top match in the 2nd Bundesliga this Friday features leaders FC St. Pauli and Hannover 96, with Kind, the 79-year-old majority shareholder of Hannover, aiming for promotion to the Bundesliga. Despite Kind's admiration for FC St. Pauli's brand and impressive soccer play, he believes that Hannover also needs a first-division team.
