Hanover - 87-year-old passenger dies after collision with truck
An 87-year-old female passenger has died in a collision between a car and a truck in Hanover. As the police announced on Thursday, the woman succumbed to her injuries in hospital. The 86-year-old driver of the car was seriously injured in the accident on Wednesday afternoon in the Misburg district, but is not currently in mortal danger, said a police spokeswoman. The 50-year-old lorry driver was slightly injured. He was also taken to hospital for outpatient treatment.
For reasons as yet unexplained, the 86-year-old's car left its own lane and collided with the oncoming truck. According to the police, the road was closed for around three and a half hours for the rescue operations and accident investigation. The police estimate the damage at around 30,000 euros.
Investigations have been initiated against both drivers for negligent homicide and negligent bodily injury. A police spokeswoman said that this was an automatic process and witnesses would have to be interviewed to clarify the matter.
