Justice - 86-year-old mother strangled: Trial against son canceled
The violent death of an 86-year-old woman from Herne can no longer be prosecuted. As the Bochum district court announced on Monday, the accused took his own life in prison shortly before the start of the trial. The 47-year-old German was accused of strangling his mother on June 5 of this year. According to the indictment, he had subsequently planned to kill his father, who was suffering from dementia, and himself. Investigators assumed that he wanted to take his parents to their deaths to spare them further suffering.
The police found the senior citizen's body six days after the crime in the family's shared apartment. The public prosecutor's office had charged the accused with manslaughter. The trial should actually have started on Monday.
