71-year-old found hypothermic after accident during forestry work
Thanks to a major search operation, a 71-year-old man who was injured while working in the forest was found in time, despite suffering from hypothermia. The man had not returned from forestry work near Wendelstein (Roth district) until late in the evening on Monday, as the Central Franconia police headquarters announced on Tuesday. His partner therefore called the police, who, in view of the low temperatures and the persistent snowfall, alerted several patrols including service dogs as well as the surrounding volunteer fire departments. Local farmers also took part in the search.
A local resident finally discovered the missing man's tractor in a wooded area near the district of Neuses. "Shortly afterwards, the 71-year-old himself, who was able to draw attention to himself by shouting for help, was also found," said the officials. The man's foot had been trapped under a felled tree. He was taken to hospital with a foot injury and hypothermia.
Despite the challenging weather conditions in Central France, authorities launched an extensive search operation after the man's absence was reported. The accident during forestry work had resulted in the 71-year-old getting trapped under a felled tree, leading to accidents and weather-related complications.
