Accidents - 70-year-old dies in the crash of a glider
A 70-year-old Dutch man died at the scene of a glider plane crash in Thuringia. The man crashed during takeoff at Suhl-Goldlauter airfield on Tuesday, according to a police spokeswoman. He died there from his severe injuries.
The man had been sitting alone in the small glider. He was a member of a Dutch travel group. At least part of the group was present at the small airfield during the crash around 12:00 p.m. A crisis intervention team was sent to the accident site to care for potential witnesses, the police spokeswoman added.
The cause of the accident and the crash height are still unclear. The investigations are being led by criminal technicians and experts from the Federal Aviation Office.
