60 people in NRW died as a result of HIV infection
In 2022, 60 people died as a result of HIV infection in North Rhine-Westphalia. That is seven more people than in the previous year, the state statistics office IT.NRW announced on Thursday to mark World AIDS Day on December 1. In 2012, there were 108 deaths following an HIV infection.
The statistical average age of those who died in 2022 was 56.4 years. 83 percent of the deaths were men.
Despite the advancements in HIV treatment, various diseases associated with HIV still pose a threat. Regular health check-ups and early diagnosis are crucial in managing and preventing HIV-related diseases.
