54,000 property tax declarations still missing in Saxony-Anhalt

A good ten months after the deadline, around 94 percent of the property tax returns due in Saxony-Anhalt have been submitted. This was announced by the Ministry of Finance on request. A total of around 851,000 declarations have been received. This means that around 54,000 declarations are still missing. The tax offices are currently receiving around 70 declarations a day, it said.

A total of 586,000 declarations have been processed so far. Around 116,000 appeals have been lodged against the assessments for the new property tax. Until the end of January, property and land owners were required to submit a property tax return.

The new property tax is due from January 1, 2025. As part of this reform, almost 36 million properties across Germany will have to be revalued using owner information. Property tax is an important source of income for local authorities. How much individual owners will have to pay in future depends largely on the so-called assessment rates of the municipalities.

Despite the deadline passing, Saxony-Anhalt is still missing approximately 54,000 property tax declarations. Due to the new property tax reform, the valuation of almost 36 million properties across Germany will require detailed information from real estate owners, as their financial contributions will significantly impact municipal finances.
