Investigations - 52-year-old dies after argument in Hanover

A 52-year-old man has died following an altercation at Hanover 's main railway station. He had got into an argument with a 36-year-old man between platforms 1 and 2 on Tuesday night, according to the police. According to witnesses, the situation escalated and a fight broke out. The 36-year-old then allegedly punched the 52-year-old once. The latter collapsed. Emergency services tried to resuscitate him. He was taken to hospital, where he died shortly afterwards.

The police provisionally arrested the 36-year-old, who was presumably under the influence of alcohol. A judge ordered a blood sample to be taken as the man refused a breath test. The 36-year-old was taken into police custody and was to be brought before a magistrate.

It was initially unclear why the two men got into an argument. The police launched an investigation into assault resulting in death and are looking for witnesses who can provide information on the course of events.
