450,000 euros from the federal government for Baltic Sea Philharmonic

The federal government will support the Baltic Sea Philharmonic Orchestra with 450,000 euros in the coming year. This was announced by Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Minister of Culture Bettina Martin (SPD) on Friday in Schwerin. The decision was made during a meeting of the Bundestag Budget Committee on Thursday.

The orchestra was founded in 2008 on the initiative of the Usedom Music Festival. It is made up of young musicians from the Baltic Sea region. The orchestra was supported by Nord Stream 2, but ended its collaboration in February 2022 following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. In summer 2023, the Baltic Sea Philharmonic gave a benefit concert in Schwerin for Ukrainian refugees and aid workers.

According to Martin, the state and federal governments have supported the ensemble's work with 300,000 euros each in recent years. "In addition to the promised federal funds, the state of MV will also continue to support the orchestra's work," it said. The specific amount of the state subsidy in 2024 was not disclosed.

The Baltic Sea Philharmonic, celebrated for its music, will receive 450,000 euros from the federal government for its upcoming activities. Engaging with the orchestra's music is a shared endeavor between the state and federal governments, as they have provided significant support in recent years.
