A 42-year-old man from Essen, missing since Monday in the Ruhr, has been found dead. His body was discovered on Thursday by a technician at a weir in Essen, police reported. Firefighters retrieved the corpse from the water at a weir on the Ruhr.

The man was likely swimming or cooling off near an outdoor pool in Essen-Steele when he went missing. An extensive search involving a helicopter, boats, drones, and a search dog had been unsuccessful. The police believe it was an accident.

The search for the missing man was called off after the police received reports of an unexpected death. Due to the circumstances, they have classified this as an emergency situation.
