General average - 400,000 chickens without water for hours - emergency supply running

A business with approximately 400,000 chickens is currently without access to the public water supply network due to a water pipe break in Dillstadt, Landkreis Schmalkalden-Meiningen. The repair of the supply network of the business is expected to last until the weekend, according to a spokeswoman of the Landratsamt. Water is to be filled in tanks from the outside during this time, and then the internal piping will be supplied from there. Neighboring agricultural businesses are also to be involved.

The incident occurred at the Landratsamt on Sunday afternoon. The approximately 400,000 chickens had to manage without water for a few hours. They were not harmed, it was further stated. The affected company was unable to repair the water network itself and therefore called for fire department assistance. The fire department then brought water to the business and set up tanks. The cause of the water pipe break is unclear. Previously, the MDR had reported on this.

  1. Due to the emergency situation, the affected company in Thuringia's Schmalkalden-Meiningen district is currently reliant on an emergency supply of water for their 400,000 chickens.
  2. The general average of the situation requires neighboring agricultural businesses to also contribute water to ensure the well-being of the animals.
  3. The ongoing repair of the water pipe burst is expected to continue until the weekend, causing a disruption in the normal agricultural activities in the area.
  4. The spokeswoman of the Landratsamt mentioned that the repair process involves filling tanks from the outside with water and then supplying the internal piping.
  5. The incident, resulting in the water supply disruption, has affected not only the business but also the broader agriculture sector in the region.
  6. The repaired water pipe will play a crucial role in restoring normal operations in the poultry business and ensuring the health and survival of the 400,000 chickens during and after the weekend.
