Music - 40 years of old hits - BAP goes on a "time travel" tour

The band BAP will be giving the first concert of their "Zeitreise 81/82" tour in Cologne on Thursday evening (8pm), recalling their first successes a good 40 years ago. The musicians around singer Wolfgang Niedecken will be playing all the tracks from their two breakthrough albums "für uzzzeschnigge!" and "von drinne noh drusse". The two albums, released in 1981 and 1982, helped the Kölsch rock band to nationwide fame with songs such as "Verdamp lang her".

Niedecken told dpa that the band's recent tours had shown that the audience reacted very emotionally and enthusiastically to these songs from the breakthrough period in particular. They want to arrange the songs as respectfully as possible, as they are often associated with formative personal memories. The tour will be "quite a tightrope act" and it is important not to drift into kitschy nostalgia or clichés.

The tour kicks off with four consecutive concerts from Thursday to Sunday in the comparatively small Sartory Sälen in Cologne. In November and December 2024, the band will then play around 30 more concerts in numerous German cities.
