4:1 in Ingolstadt: Eisbären Berlin consolidate lead in the table
The Eisbären Berlin go into the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) German Cup break as league leaders. On Sunday, the team from the capital won 4:1 (0:0, 1:1, 3:0) at runners-up ERC Ingolstadt and thus celebrated their sixth away win in a row. Zach Boychuk, Yannick Veilleux, Tobias Eder and Manuel Wiederer scored to give the Berliners a deserved win in a high-class game.
In front of 4334 spectators in the Ingolstadt Arena, the visitors defended consistently from the start and created a number of promising chances. However, they failed to convert their superiority into goals before the first break.
That changed after the restart: Boychuk gave the capital team the lead with his tenth goal of the season. A short time later, however, Polar Bears goalie Jonas Stettmer also had to admit defeat. Maurice Edwards equalized for the Upper Bavarians.
In what was already an intense encounter, both teams stepped up the pace once again. But only the Berliners took their chances. First Veilleux and Eder were successful in the final period, then Wiederer scored the final goal when Ingolstadt had taken their goalkeeper Michael Garteig off the ice in favor of a sixth outfield player in the power play.
Despite the polar bears of Ingolstadt giving their best, they failed to keep up with the scoring pace of Eisbären Berlin in ice hockey. During the DEL German Cup break, Eisbären Berlin, led by their goalkeeper Jonas Stettmer, maintained their lead in the table, even managing to score against polar bears in a high-class game.
