In Erfurt, a man was killed during the night on Thursday. The 39-year-old was shot on a free area in the northern part of Erfurt, according to the investigating public prosecutor's office Erfurt. A suspect is on the run and may be armed. He is being sought. "We cannot currently exclude a danger to the population," warned the police in a short message on X. An investigation is being carried out against the suspect for a completed murder. The public prosecutor's office did not comment on this when asked if it was manslaughter or murder. The victim was from Erfurt.

According to information from MDR, the incident occurred in the context of the drug scene, and the fleeing suspect is a 48-year-old man. The man was reportedly hit by two shots with shotgun ammunition in the back and died at the scene. Before the incident, there were reportedly murder threats against him, according to MDR. The public prosecutor's office initially refused to provide further details due to ongoing investigations.

The incident reportedly occurred half an hour before midnight. A large police operation was still ongoing on Thursday morning. Among those involved were employees of the forensic medicine department of the University Clinic Jena, investigators from the criminal police in Erfurt, and officials from the Thuringian State Criminal Police Office. The area around the alleged crime scene was cordoned off.

The police are looking for witnesses who can make statements about the incident or the fleeing suspect.
