37-year-old man pulled out of lake in Landsberg and died
A 37-year-old man has been rescued from a lake in Landsberg (Saalekreis) and later died. The man was pulled out of the water near the Hohenthurm quarry on Saturday afternoon with the help of the fire department, the police announced on Sunday. Two witnesses who knew the man had previously tried in vain to rescue him from the lake. After "intensive resuscitation measures" by the emergency services, the 37-year-old was taken to a hospital in Halle (Saale), where he died early on Sunday morning, according to the police.
According to initial findings, the police assume that the victim lost his balance and fell into the lake. It is not yet clear whether the man drowned, the police said. Further details were not yet known on Sunday, they said. The investigation is ongoing.
Despite the rescue efforts, the 37-year-old man suffered fatal consequences from the accidental fall into the lake while swimming. In such emergencies, swift action and appropriate water safety measures are crucial.
