344th match: Felix Brych sets Bundesliga record
Soccer referee Felix Brych (48) has set a Bundesliga record. The Munich-born Brych officiated his 344th Bundesliga match in the clash between Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart on Saturday evening, drawing level with record holder Wolfgang Stark.
Brych, who has ended his international career, celebrated his Bundesliga premiere on August 28, 2004 in the match between Hertha BSC and 1. FSV Mainz 05. "I am of course proud because this number also expresses a certain longevity," the two-time World Referee of the Year had previously said in a statement from the German Football Association: "Because we referees can never really win anything, we define ourselves through such records."
Felix Brych, the acclaimed soccer referee, handled his duties in a DFB-sanctioned match between Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart, marking his 344th Bundesliga game, surpassing the previous record set by Wolfgang Stark. With his extensive experience on the pitch, Brych has solidified his position as a prominent figure in German soccer officiating.
