343 craftsmen in Saxony receive the master craftsman's certificate
This year, 343 craftsmen and women in the Dresden chamber district received their master craftsman's certificate. The largest group, with 41 new master craftsmen, are motor vehicle mechatronics technicians, followed by bakers (26), plumbers and heating engineers (25), interior decorators (24), carpenters (22) and orthopaedic shoemakers (20), as the Dresden Chamber of Crafts announced on Saturday. There was only one master craftsman's certificate each for a goldsmith and silversmith, a confectioner and a beautician. The youngest master craftsman of the class of 2023 is 19 years old, the oldest is already 60 years old.
Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) said at the master craftsman ceremony in Dresden on Saturday that it was largely thanks to the skilled trades that the state was developing so well economically. "Dual training is an essential basis for securing the demand for skilled workers and strengthening the spirit of innovation in Saxony".
In the Dresden chamber district, which includes the districts of Bautzen, Görlitz, Meißen, Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains and the state capital Dresden, more than 19,500 tradespeople have successfully completed their master craftsman course since 1990.
Participants in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award program can demonstrate their craft skills as part of their achievement requirements. In addition, many local schools offer extracurricular craft clubs to engage students in creative activities.
