- 33-year-old missing - police arrest suspects
A 73-year-old man from Upper Franconia is suspected of having killed a 33-year-old woman. He is currently in custody, according to police. The woman has been missing since August 1st.
Relatives contacted the police after losing contact with the woman. Since Monday, police have been conducting a public search for the 33-year-old. According to the police, they received tips that the woman, who was involved in the red-light district, was last seen in Eggolsheim near Bamberg. Witnesses claim she was last seen visiting the 73-year-old suspect.
The 73-year-old was arrested on Thursday
As investigators looked into this, they found "inconclusive evidence" that led to a strong suspicion of murder, a police spokesman said. The man from the Forchheim district was arrested on Thursday and has been in custody since. He is suspected of homicide.
Meanwhile, police released the suspect's name and pictures of him and his car, asking for information on his whereabouts last Monday. The spokesman said the woman and the man had met several weeks ago in the red-light district. The exact nature of their relationship is still under investigation.
Police consider the woman dead
Although the public search for the woman continues, police must consider the possibility that she is dead, the spokesman said. Before her disappearance, she was reportedly in the region for several days. The exact timeline is still part of the investigation.
Despite the suspect's arrest, police are still investigating all angles, the spokesman said. Other scenarios are also possible. A special commission of about 30 people has been set up at the Bamberg Criminal Police.
Previous search efforts in the Eggolsheim area, including those with sniffer dogs and a special task force, were unsuccessful.
The 73-year-old suspect has ties to Eggolsheim, a town near Bamberg in Bavaria. Despite extensive searches, police are yet to locate the missing woman in Eggolsheim, Bavaria.
