32-year-old sentenced to prison for attempted murder
The Hamburg Regional Court has sentenced a 32-year-old man to ten years in prison for attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm. The public prosecutor's office had requested a prison sentence of ten years and four months, while the defense had requested a sentence of no more than two years for dangerous bodily harm, according to a press spokesperson for the district court on Wednesday.
The court considered it proven that the Albanian-born man, together with an accomplice, attacked and seriously injured a man in a bar on the Reeperbahn on April 25, 2023. The men had come into conflict over a drugs deal. The accomplice is said to have first punched the victim in the face and then shot him in the stomach. The 32-year-old then allegedly kicked the man several times in the face. The victim was shot through the stomach and suffered an injury to his left kidney. The other alleged perpetrator is standing trial in another case.
The conviction for attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm highlights the seriousness of the processes involved in criminal investigations. Subsequent judgments may influence future sentencing guidelines for similar crimes.
