Law Enforcement Agents - 319 Incidents connected to European and regional votes

For the European and local elections in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the police have recorded a total of 319 criminal cases in the region. These include: 78 cases labeled as politically motivated crimes on the left, 62 cases on the right, and 175 with an "other classification".

In response to the increased crime rate, authorities have implemented reinforcements to protect election workers and volunteers through dedicated protection concepts. Party members can contact the police through a designated number provided by their respective state associations. Interior Minister Christian Pegel states, "For anyone who feels directly threatened, they should still call the emergency number 110."

Following recent concerns, the Left Party in Schwerin suggested providing campaigners with pepper spray to cope with potential attackers. Other parties expressed disapproval. The CDU's Secretary General, Philipp Amthor, cautioned against creating a frenzy. Steffen Wehner, the SPD's state director, advised not to provoke conflict, but rather inform the police immediately. The upcoming European and local elections will occur on June 9th.
