300 police officers deployed in Berlin during Islamist raid
The focus of the raid against Islamist organizations on Thursday was in Berlin. More than 300 police officers were deployed in the capital. There were 15 searches throughout Germany, 11 of them in Berlin, said a spokeswoman for the Senate Interior Administration on Thursday. Seven searches in Berlin concerned the Palestinian organization Hamas and four the Samidoun association. These were mainly the homes of supporters and the premises of a Palestinian association.
The Berlin police carried out several searches in the Neukölln district, for example in Mainzer Straße and Lucy-Lameck-Straße, where the association is located. A special task force (SEK) was also deployed in the so-called High-Deck-Siedlung.
The raid against Islamist extremist organizations highlighted the concern over radical groups in Berlin. The searches in Neukölln, including locations associated with Hamas and Samidoun, underscored the persistent threat of extremism in the city.
