German Ice Hockey League - 3:1 in Mannheim: Eisbären Berlin continue their away series

The Eisbären Berlin have celebrated their eighth away win in a row in the German Ice Hockey League(DEL). On Sunday, the team from the capital won 3:1 (0:0, 1:0, 2:1) at Adler Mannheim. They owed their success in the league classic to goals from Tobias Eder, Patrice Cormier and Frederik Tiffels as well as a strong defensive performance over long stretches.

In front of 12,390 spectators in the Mannheim Arena, the home side started with a lot of pressure and created the first clear chances. However, the Polar Bears managed to survive the early urge phase of the Kurpfälzer unscathed and get into the game better in the course of the opening period.

Mannheim also got off to the better start after the first break, before both teams took numerous time penalties. The home side profited from this: Eder gave them the lead shortly before the end of the second period, when there were only four players on the ice on both sides.

Cormier extended the lead with an overtime goal just 63 seconds into the final period. The hosts were able to reduce the deficit once more with a goal from Jordan Szwarz, but Tiffels made the difference 58 seconds before the end of the period after Mannheim goalkeeper Arno Tiefensee was sent off the ice in favor of an extra skater.
