3:1 against Wiesbaden: SC Potsdam advance to the cup semi-finals
The women of SC Potsdam have reached the semi-finals of the German Volleyball Cup. Coach Riccardo Boieri's team beat Bundesliga seventh-placed VC Wiesbaden 3:1 (25:20, 20:25, 30:28, 25:14) at home in the last eight on Wednesday after a tough battle.
In the semi-finals, the women from Brandenburg will now have to face the Red Ravens Vilsbiburg on December 14. This was the result of the draw immediately after the end of the match.
In front of 845 spectators against Wiesbaden, Potsdam had to cope with the handicap that their playmaker Kristina Guncheva suffered an ankle injury in the very first set at 8:6 and had to be replaced by Raquel Lazaro. This temporarily threw the SCP off their rhythm. However, with strong block defense and the reliable scoring of Rodica Buterez and Danielle Harbin, the team won the first set.
The third round was decisive. Potsdam already led 21:14, but lost the advantage. In the end, the hosts had to extend the set, fended off three set points and capitalized on their fifth set point with a block by Anastasia Cekulaev to make it 30:28. The SCP then had an easy game against their demoralized opponents.
The victory over Wiesbaden in the Quarterfinals of the DVV Cup propels the Women's team of SC Potsdam to face Red Ravens Vilsbiburg in the semifinals. Despite the early injury to playmaker Kristina Guncheva, the team showcased their resilience and strong block defense, leading to a hard-fought 3:1 win.
