3:0 against Bitterfeld-Wolfen: Volleys conquer top of the table

The Berlin Volleys have secured the expected must-win against VC Bitterfeld-Wolfen in the Volleyball Bundesliga. The German champions held their own against the newly promoted team from Saxony-Anhalt on Wednesday in front of 3,571 spectators in the Max-Schmeling-Halle, winning 3:0 (25:12, 25:22, 25:13). Thanks to the slightly better set ratio, the Berliners overtook SWD powervolleys Düren (14 points each) at the top of the table.

Volleys coach Joel Banks rested his regulars Ruben Schott and Nehemiah Mote against Bitterfeld-Wolfen. Cody Kessel and Timo Tammemaa came into action instead. Middle blocker Tobias Krick was missing due to a slight concussion.

Despite the personnel changes, the hosts quickly found their flow. After an ace from setter Johannes Tille, the Volleys opened up a ten-point lead for the first time in the first set (17:7). The second set was tighter, but the favorites also won it in the end thanks to points from attacker Timothee Carle.

The German champions clearly demonstrated their superiority again in the final period. A series of serves by Leon Dervisaj, who replaced Tille, gave the Berliners a 21:8 lead and then easily secured victory.

The Berlin Volleys, consisting mainly of substitutes due to coach Joel Banks' decision to rest regulars Ruben Schott and Nehemiah Mote, showcased their strength in the Men's Bundesliga, securing a dominant 3:0 victory against newly promoted team Bitterfeld-Wolfen. This win allowed the Berliners to surpass SWD powervolleys Düren and take the lead in the Volleyball Bundesliga table.
