Traffic - 29-euro ticket launched in Berlin
The 29-Euro-Ticket for the Berlin transport area has started. As of today, the approximately 150,000 subscribers of the new fare ticket for 29 Euro per month can travel through the capital with all buses, S-Bahns, U-Bahns, trams, and BVG-services.
The ticket has a minimum validity of twelve months. It can only be cancelled monthly after the first year. Introduced under heavy pressure from the SPD, who campaigned for the offer during the previous election year, the ticket's sales have been significantly lower than anticipated.
A budget of 150 million Euro was planned for the ticket in the current fiscal year, and 300 million Euro for the following year. This equates to roughly 650,000 subscriptions - significantly more than the approximately 150,000 that have been sold so far.
The 29-Euro-Ticket also covers railroad services within the Berlin transport area, making it a convenient option for commuters using both public transportation and railroad. Despite the ticket's benefits, Berlin traffic might face some challenges due to the increased number of passengers using the public transport system.
