AfD party conference - 28 police officers injured in clashes with AfD opponents
Multiple tens of thousands of people have participated in a total of 32 counter-demonstrations since Friday evening, according to the police. Most of them had demonstrated peacefully for their cause. However, larger groups with several hundred people repeatedly tried to hinder the delegates from participating or break through barricades through violent actions.
"Our colleagues had to use batons and tear gas repeatedly during these violent actions," the police stated.
In one case, policemen escorted a delegate to the Grugahalle. They were attacked by approximately 200 people. A policeman sustained serious injuries. Initially, it was reported that there were two severely injured persons - the injuries of an officer turned out to be less severe in the hospital.
Demonstrators also suffered injuries, such as from pepper spray. The number of injured protestors was not immediately known.
