During the protests against the AfD party convention in Essen over the weekend, a total of 28 police officers were injured, one severely. The man has left the hospital but will not be fit for duty for several weeks, Essen Police announced on Monday. The police are searching for a suspect who is alleged to have struck a police officer in the head while he was on the ground.

According to the statement, 22 demonstrators were taken into custody, and 2 were temporarily detained. All are reportedly now back in freedom, the statement added.
