250 people have been evacuated due to a carbon monoxide leak in a residential and commercial building in Pforzheim. Two people were also taken to hospital with minor injuries, a police spokesperson said on Thursday. There was no danger to life.

250 people have been evacuated due to a carbon monoxide leak in a residential and commercial building in Pforzheim. Two people were also taken to hospital with minor injuries, a police spokesperson said on Thursday. There was no danger to life.

A woman called the emergency services on Wednesday evening due to health complaints, according to the fire department. The emergency services discovered an increased concentration of the gas in the building and alerted the fire department. With the help of a chimney sweep and after measurements were taken, the emergency services determined that the cause was a technical fault in an extraction system.

The affected apartments were ventilated. After around two hours, the residents were reportedly able to return to their apartments. According to the police spokesperson, there is also a pizzeria and an Irish pub in the building complex.
