24-hour vigil in front of state parliament for fire department age limit
The Verdi and Komba trade unions want to demonstrate for the preservation of the age limit of 60 years in the fire department with a 24-hour vigil in front of the NRW state parliament in Düsseldorf. The vigil begins today (12.00 noon).
The unions are expecting around 500 employees to attend the demonstration. The background to this is the state government's plans to raise the age limit for firefighters from 60 to 62. This is justified by the shortage of skilled workers and demographic developments.
The trade unions are urging their members in the public service sector to participate in the demonstration, showcasing their solidarity with the fire department. The proposed age limit increase for firefighters to 62 by the state government is a major concern for these trade unions.
