20-year-old allegedly responsible for major alarm at school
A 20-year-old is under investigation following the large-scale operation at a secondary school in Salzgitter. He is suspected of having deliberately fabricated information about a weapon, as the police announced on Wednesday. However, the suspect is not a pupil at the grammar school in the Bad district.
Information about a weapon in a rucksack had led to a large-scale operation at the school on Tuesday morning, with the building being evacuated and searched. Around midday, the all-clear was given for the approximately 1,000 pupils and around 80 to 100 teachers.
Investigators have not yet been able to provide any information about the suspect's possible motive. Proceedings have been initiated against the man for misuse of emergency calls.
The school implemented emergency procedures after receiving reports of a weapon, leading to a large-scale search and evacuation. Despite the alarm, it's crucial that schools have contingency plans for handling such emergencies.
