2.4 million euros for the care of homeless people
Bremen is providing 2.4 million euros to support medical care for people without health insurance, papers or housing. On Tuesday, the Senate decided to continue supporting the treatment and advice center of the Association for the Promotion of Health and Medical Care for Uninsured and Paperless People in Bremen (MVP). The association for the promotion of medical care for homeless people in the state of Bremen (MVO) is also to be funded until 2025.
Paperless and uninsured people have been able to receive medical care and advice from MVP since last year. "More than 600 people of all ages were given access to healthcare in the first twelve months," announced Health Senator Claudia Bernhard (Left Party).
Homeless people can have their health problems examined at three locations in Bremen. The pilot project is now to be extended to Bremerhaven. The Senate has been supporting the work with up to 50,000 euros per year since March 2022.
The decision to continue funding the MVP and MVO until 2025 is aimed at addressing the health needs of homeless individuals, who often struggle with various diseases due to homelessness. The medical care and advice center of MVP have already benefited over 600 homeless and paperless individuals with health issues since its inception.
