2:2 after 0:2: Hannover shows morale in the promotion race
Hannover 96 scored an important point in the promotion race in the 2nd Bundesliga. After trailing 2-0, the new third-placed team fought back to draw 2-2 (0-2) against Hertha BSC on Friday evening.
Florian Niederlechner (29 minutes) and Pascal Klemens (45 minutes) had given the initially convincing Berliners a deserved lead. However, Havard Nielsen (67') and Andreas Voglsammer (80') equalized for Lower Saxony.
As a result, the relegated first division side from Berlin failed to close the gap on promotion candidates Hannover to two points. It was the third unnecessary draw in a row for Hertha. In these three games, coach Pal Dardai's team dropped six important points.
More than 10,000 of the 45,000 spectators in the Heinz von Heiden Arena cheered Hertha on. Hannover played very badly for a long time. At the back, the 96ers invited Berlin's best Fabian Reese to create two good chances early on (12th/16th). Up front, they were too unfocused and rushed.
The hosts only improved in the second half. Hertha now became too passive and no longer defended stably. The 1:2 through Nielsen was preceded by a solo run by defender Phil Neumann across half the pitch.
Despite the disappointing draw, Hanover 96's performance in Bundesliga 2 showcases their determination in the promotion race. This was evident as they overcame a 2-0 deficit against Hertha BSC, with Hanover 96 eventually earning a draw.
With their resilience, Hanover 96 is now just one point behind Hertha BSC in the race for promotion, offering a promising outlook for the Lower Saxony team.
