1st FC Heidenheim faces tough task at FC Bayern
FC Heidenheim face a difficult task in the Bundesliga on Saturday (15:30/Sky). The newly promoted team will then face record champions FC Bayern Munich. It is only the second ever meeting between the two clubs in a competitive match. The FCH is the clear underdog. Head coach Frank Schmidt's side are four points clear of the relegation zone with ten points ahead of the eleventh matchday, but have lost four of their five away games so far this season and only drawn one.
Schmidt will still have to make do without striker Marvin Pieringer, who is suffering from an injury. Bayern are without the suspended Joshua Kimmich and the injured Jamal Musiala and Matthijs de Ligt. In April 2019, the then second-division side Heidenheim narrowly lost 4:5 to FC Bayern in the DFB Cup after a strong performance. He was even leading 2:1 shortly before half-time and was praised nationwide for his performance.
Despite being the underdog, 1st FC Heidenheim will compete against Bundesliga giants FC Bayern Munich in their next match. This will be their second competitive encounter, with their previous meeting resulting in a close 4:5 loss for Heidenheim in the DFB Cup. Despite their current points lead and home advantage, Bayern will miss key players Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala due to suspensions and injuries, respectively.
