Extremism - 19-year-old charged with suspected attack plans
The public prosecutor's office in Frankfurt has brought charges against a 19-year-old suspected right-wing extremist from the Limburg-Weilburg district. He is accused of planning and preparing a serious state-threatening violent act, as well as violating the weapons law and using symbols of unconstitutional organizations, according to the authorities. The man was arrested during a search on November 15th of the previous year and has been in pre-trial detention since then.
According to the investigation, he is said to have "a firmly established antisemitic and racist mindset." He is charged with planning to overthrow the democratic order in the Federal Republic of Germany through violence since the end of 2021. "He is said to have aimed at establishing a self-sufficient 'folk community' on a National Socialist foundation, excluding people who did not fit into his National Socialist image, and in particular Jews and people with a migration background," it was stated.
The establishment of this community is also said to have included the formation of a protection squad - and this through lethal violence against people, especially against police officers, according to the public prosecutor. The accused is said to see this as part of a supposed current state arbitrary rule.
The man is also said to have planned to build bunkers to manufacture weapons. He is said to have printed parts of an automatic machine pistol with a 3D printer. During the search, a gas pistol was found, whose barrel had been altered to allow bullets to be fired. The public prosecutor also accuses him of having uploaded a video to a Telegram channel in February 2023, in which Nazi symbols, particularly of Adolf Hitler, were glorified.
Will the Youth Chamber of the Limburg Regional Court take up the case?
The public prosecutor's office in Frankfurt has proposed that the case be presented to the Youth Chamber of the Limburg Regional Court due to the special scope of the proceedings. The Youth Judicial Court of the Limburg Magistrates' Court must now decide whether it will follow this proposal or decide on the opening of the main proceedings itself.
Regarding this case, the former Hessian Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU) also made a statement after the arrest of the then 18-year-old. "The security authorities have successfully prevented an attack plan in its initial stages with professional investigative work," Beuth stated in November of the previous year. According to the statements of the Frankfurt Public Prosecutor's Office and the Hessian Criminal Police at the time, the man was said to have threatened people in relevant forums multiple times with the intention of killing them in the context of pursuing his political goals. The investigations were reportedly ongoing for several months before his arrest.
