1860 Munich fails in the Toto Cup in Pipinsried
TSV 1860 Munich have surprisingly been eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Bavarian Toto Cup. The third-division soccer team lost 0:1 (0:1) at FC Pipinsried, who play two divisions lower, on Saturday. As a result, the "Lions" missed a chance to qualify for the first round of next year's DFB Cup as winners of the regional cup.
Daniel Gerstmayer had already put the Bayernliga side ahead in the 5th minute. Coach Maurizio Jacobacci's Sechziger played in superior numbers from the 66th minute onwards after the hosts were sent off. The Munich side were also awarded a penalty shortly before the end, but Albion Vrenezi hit the crossbar from the spot.
Despite the numerical advantage in the second half, TSV 1860 Munich couldn't manage to overturn the one-goal deficit in the Toto Cup. The disappointing result means Toto Cup champions TSV 1860 Munich will miss out on direct qualification for the first round of the DFB Cup next year.
