3rd league - 1860 Munich disappoint at Schmöller's premiere
Frank Schmöller had imagined his debut as interim coach of TSV 1860 Munich to be very different. In the first game after parting ways with Maurizio Jacobacci, the "Lions" lost 0:2 (0:2) against Arminia Bielefeld in the 3rd soccer league on Sunday.
Former 1860 professional Merveille Biankadi (12th minute) and Arminia attacker Fabian Klos (24th) scored the goals for the hosts from East Westphalia after an unfortunate defensive action by captain Jesper Verlaat. Midfielder Manfred Starke missed a great chance to make it 1:1 shortly before the second Bielefeld goal when he shot the ball over the goal from around five meters - an incredible scene.
The visitors pressed after the break, especially after Bielefeld's Maximilian Großer was shown a red card for an emergency brake against Morris Schröter (64'). Julian Guttau's free-kick hit the inside of the post and was just a whisker away from scoring the equalizer (85').
After their tenth defeat of the season, Munich are still stuck in 15th place. Schmöller should have made his debut a week ago in the home match against Rot-Weiss Essen. The game had to be postponed due to the winter weather. At the end of the season, 1860 will face Waldhof Mannheim on Wednesday.
