3rd league - 1860 Munich crashes: "Brutal situation"

The fans are fed up - and the coach is coming under massive pressure. TSV 1860 Munich continues to plummet in the 3rd soccer league. The sobering 0:3 (0:0) at Borussia Dortmund II on Sunday evening meant the fifth defeat in the last six competitive matches for the "Lions". Coach Maurizio Jacobacci's team slipped further down the table to 15th place.

"We are where we are and we have to make sure we get out of it as quickly as possible. We don't have the killer instinct at the moment," said Jacobacci, who only took over TSV at the end of February, on the current situation.

In the first half, the Munich side showed promising signs in Dortmund, but once again failed to take their chances. They finally fell apart in the second half.

In the snowy conditions at the Rote Erde stadium, the Sixties conceded goals from Ole Pohlmann, Julian Hettwer and Ayman Azhil. The second goal resembled a slapstick interlude. Captain Jesper Verlaat twisted and turned in his own penalty area. His central defender colleague Leroy Kwadwo was too slow to clear the ball, Hettwer said thank you and finished successfully for BVB.

The 1860 fans who had traveled to the match booed their team and even called for coach Jacobacci to be dismissed. "This is a brutally shitty situation. You have to be honest and open about it," said midfielder Manfred Starke after the frustrating business trip. "We have to get out of this together. It really hurts a lot, but we can't stop now."

Rot-Weiss Essen is the "Lions'" next task on Saturday (2 p.m.). One of Jacobacci's wishes is unlikely to be fulfilled by then: a new striker. Joel Zwarts is still out due to muscular problems. For how long? That is not foreseeable. "We need a man up front who can convert the chances," said Jacobacci.
