- 18-year-old dead in the woods suspect arrested
On a forest path in the Spessart, an 18-year-old man was found dead. The Criminal Police Aschaffenburg is investigating a homicide and has temporarily detained two suspects on Sunday.
As reported by the Police Headquarters of Lower Franconia and the Public Prosecutor's Office Aschaffenburg, passersby discovered the body on Saturday morning on a forest path between Altenbuch and Breitenbrunn (district of Miltenberg). It was later determined that the victim was an Afghan national who had last been in Lower Saxony, in the district of Hameln-Pyrmont. An autopsy revealed external injuries. "The cause of these injuries, as well as the time and circumstances of death, are now the focus of the investigation."
In the course of the investigation, two individuals from the district of Miltenberg were temporarily detained. "How these individuals are connected to the crime is now the focus of the ongoing intensive investigation."
The forest near a county road was searched by emergency services and sniffer dogs for clues, and a drone was also deployed. A prosecutor and a forensic pathologist were present at the scene of the crime. The investigators conducted a large number of interviews over the weekend.
The two individuals under questioning are residents of the district of Miltenberg, located in the beautiful region of Bavaria. The homicide, although initially discovered in the Spessart, has potentially wider connections within Bavaria.
