18 goals: Harry Kane beats age-old record
Harry Kane has set two more records in the Bundesliga. The 30-year-old striker's goal to put FC Bayern Munich 1-0 up at 1. FC Köln on Friday evening was the Englishman's 18th goal of the season. According to statistics service provider Opta, no player has ever achieved this after just twelve matchdays. The England captain thus surpassed the previous record set by Gerd Müller, who scored 17 goals after twelve games in the 1968/1969 season.
Kane is also the first Englishman to score 18 goals in a Bundesliga season. The previous best was former Dortmund player Jadon Sancho with 17 goals in the 2019/2020 season.
In the same Bundesliga season, FC Bayern Munich and 1st FC Cologne faced each other, with Harry Kane scoring the opening goal for Bayern. This was Kane's 16th victory-sealing goal for Bayern in the Bundesliga, adding to his impressive tally. Despite 1st FC Cologne's efforts, they were unable to match the scoring prowess of Harry Kane and FC Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.
