17 percent of adults in Hesse are severely overweight
17 percent of adults in Hesse are severely overweight. According to the State Statistical Office in Wiesbaden on Thursday, they had a body mass index of 30 or more in 2021 and were therefore considered obese. At 19 percent, men were affected more frequently than women (14 percent). While men were in line with the national average, women were slightly below the national figure (15 percent).
In the 18 to under 35 age group, 11 percent were reported to be severely overweight. Between the ages of 35 and 64, almost one in five Hesse residents were obese (19 percent), as were people aged 65 and over (18 percent). The results are based on the microcensus, an annual survey of one percent of the population that has been conducted since 1957.
The high obesity rates in Hesse warrant further investigation into its impact on public health.Analyzing these statistics over time could provide valuable insights into health trends and interventions needed.
