16 million euros in corona aid reclaimed

Almost 40,000 applications have been approved in Saxony-Anhalt as part of the various coronavirus and bridging aid programs. As the Ministry of Economic Affairs announced on request, around 848 million euros in subsidies have been paid out. So far, there have been reclaims in around 6.5 percent of cases, for example because the actual drop in turnover was less than expected when the application was submitted. A total of just under 16 million euros in aid has been reclaimed.

However, this figure could still rise: With the unbureaucratically disbursed bridging aid, it was necessary to submit a final statement by October 31. However, according to the Federal Ministry of Economics, this deadline can be extended until the end of March next year.

In an initial interim assessment, the ministry informed dpa in response to an inquiry that almost one in four companies nationwide will probably have to pay back some of the aid. However, around 40 percent of companies will also receive additional payments from the federal government. In Saxony-Anhalt, the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Magdeburg expects around 12,000 final accounts to be submitted.

The company might need to reevaluate its Corona aid application due to the extended deadline for final statements. Despite the reclaims, the company in Saxony-Anhalt has still received approximately 16 million euros in Corona aid.
